what av software do you use? want to see how it stands up to what else is out there?

check this article to see if your av software is even worth what your paying for....

http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=1137

surprisingly, avg is up there.... I hear a lot of flak about avg being crap, but for removal of threats that the software can actually detect, it seems to score pretty high...

although the test results show what they show.... no av software is truly better than another.... they all detect something that the other doesn't detect....

recently I worked on a computer that had avg on it, and it showed signs of a virus(runnin slow, cpu usage pegged when the computer wasn't doin anything), I uninstalled avg, and installed microsoft security essentials, and the microsoft av found 3 viruses that avg didn't.... and was able to remove them...

av software is an interesting animal to say the least.... no av software detects all threats, and not all av software can remove all the threats it can detect....

moral of the story? if you think your computer has a virus cause its actin weird, it likely does, you just need to try different av software....

that ms av software actually surprised me... I honestly had my doubts because it was an ms product... but it found stuff the other av didn't... and it still scored higher than some av you pay for in that lil benchmark.... a friend of mine told me to try that when I told him avg wasn't finding any viruses... speakin of that guy... I owe him $5 for being right about that...  : (

Yeah give it a try.... but don't think because it finds stuff avg don't, that its a permanent solution.... just know if the av software doesn't find any viruses, and the computers actin weird, try a different av.... I can't stress that enough... but don't ever try to install 2 av softwares on the same computer at the same time.... that always leads to issues...

and marty(bootnie-lee) had issues with his girl friends kid virusing up his computer all the time, and all they use it for is the internet.... so my solution to that problem was to ditch windows and install ubuntu.... so far he's been happy with it... and the best part is theres really no viruses for linux... atleast no ones currently targeting linux desktop... so he can keep his computer clean, and not be a computer nazi to the people he lives with... He told me how frustrating it was to have to keep an eye on everyone using the computer....

ask marty what he thinks of his ubuntu installation so far... last time I checked, he told me "so far, so good"....
