apparently they have a web site up, and are running a beta right now.... and have a decent list of games and developers who are supporting this...

http://www.onlive.com/service/hot_new_games.html

I applied to try and beta test this....

if your thinking about buying an xbox360 or ps3 any time in the next 6 months.... hold off and wait to see how this pans out....

anyone else know anything about this or know anyone currently beta testing it?

gibby, you around to comment on this? I haven't seen you post anywhere... you still in the biz?

im thinking the reason you were so in the dark about this kind of thing is because its going to shift the market around a lot... some people might get laid off cause of decreased operational and developmental costs.... and the higher ups don't want to tell people about the potential loss of their job, cause it decreases employee productivity.... perhaps figuring if your not ontop of the game enough to know, you don't deserve your job?

eitherway, check this shit out people.... if you like games, your gonna want to keep an eye on this....

Heres a lil something I couldn't stop laughing at.....

There was a 30 page argument over a thread I started on gf way back when the 360, ps3, n wii first came out..... I told people there would be no ps4, xbox720, etc.... that this was the last generation of game consoles..... I got laughed at, called an idiot, people said I was making shit up..... well.... here it is, pretty much exactly what I said...... next gen = software not hardware..... direct from the horses mouth....

gibby? come on now.... where you at? I know you look here..... you not man enough to appologize for saying all that shit?

well.... the service is still in the beta stages... and still is going to be a few months off...

but this interesting news raised my eye brows...

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=16380

december isn't that far away....

but the sheer volume of people who signed up for the beta show theres a huge interest in it....

why the hell would you buy a console, if you don't need one to play most of the best games? on top of being able to play them on pretty much anything with a web browser?

if you look on global... back when the ps3 first came out I told people cloud computing gaming would be the next new thing....

I wonder what that one dude who said he worked for a game developer is gonna do since his company had no clue of this technology, nor any clue of whether or not to support it?

Onlive is getting closer and closer to being available....

if you check out the rest of their blog, you can read up on other news about the service....

as for which cell phones will support onlive, thats yet to be determined.... so I guess crysis playing on an iphone was just a tech demo for now.... but the future of onlive on the cell phones isn't dead.... its just uncertain which phones will get onlive... phones are a different animal, and I think they basically equated the problems the same as coding for different game systems... so as of now, its unknown which phones will support onlive... but I would imagine if they ran their tech demo on an iphone that at some point, it should be available for the iphone...

anyone wondering how exactly it works, and understands computers a lil bit will find this article very interesting...

gibby? come on man, post something about it..... you were all gung ho about shooting me down before these articles came out sayin I was making shit up, and heres the proof I wasn't..... you don't wanna comment cause I was right? come on man, give credit where credit is due...

anyone else feel this is going to kill the game console? any time, anywhere, on demand gaming?

well, after some delays, and a intese beta, its finally coming with a release date!

http://firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=22618

I read a bit of a review from some guy who tested onlive a month or so back.... the guy was saying network latency is the cause of the delays.... onlive needed some cooperation from service providers to cut back on some of the delay... I guess they had to ask service providers to mark the onlive traffic for qos, and that took a while.... but supposedly it cut down the delay enough to get it to market.... from what the guy said, first person shooters didn't play too well cause there was a bit of lag in the aim and movement, but playing a racing game with an xbox 360 controller hooked to the computer negated some of the lag because of the joystick lag.... joysticks have lag going from far 1 direction back to center, and then to another direction, which is a lot different from normal pc play cause all you do is push a different button to change directions, so there is no lag.... kinda why its so unfair for a person to play a first person shooter with a controller against someone with a keyboard and mouse... the person on the controller just isn't going to be able to aim/shoot/move as well as the person on the kb/mouse...

as soon as I play it for myself, I'll post up a review of my own....

seriously though.... with the expansion of the internet comin in the next few years(especially now that cisco put out the crs-3 320tbps service provider router), I really can tell this is going to blow the fuck up real fast, once america gets its broadband upgrade in the next few years..... Theres no way any of the console makers are going to be able to get a new hardware console to the market to compete with it in time.....

with smart phones taking over as laptops, theres going to be a huge demand for a service like that.... any time, any game, anywhere model of business.... console makers can't compete with that....
